> how many time has something like this happened to you???? The following didn't happen to me, but it happened to two people in my office last week, and I thought it was neat. There's probably 1/2 million residents on the Peninsula of Virginia (Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, York County, Williamsburg...) Anyway, not huge, but not tiny either. A woman in the office was late for work one day last week. Turns out she saw a guy slump over at the steering wheel and go off the road. She stopped...he wasn't breathing and had no pulse.....she did CPR etc. and was credited for saving his life. The neat part is that she later found out that it was the father of a second woman in the same office. Well, it doesn't sound as neat as it did during the discussion around the office, but you get the idea... :-) Oh, here's a small world thing that scared the hell out of me when I was a teenager in the late 70's. My Dad is a pretty laid back guy. He and I were at the Mall once, just roaming around waiting for mom. He's 5'8" and was maybe 160 lbs. I was 5'9" and 132 soaking wet. There was a black guy who looked maybe 6'4"ish and 250-275 pounds. He looked mean, wasn't causing trouble but was being loud and drawing attention. My dad spotted him, and the whole look on dad's face changed as he yelled to the guy "You big dumb black son-of-a bitch - shut your trap before I shut it for you!" My reaction...."Oh S___ - we're gonna die!" The black guy turned to see who said it, saw my dad, ran over (again, Oh S--- - we're gonna die! MOMMY!!!!!) and gave my dad a huge bear hug and started laughing. Thoughts changed to "what the heck is this all about?!?!?!? - why are we not dead yet?!?!?" Seems that the guy and my dad were buddies in Vietnam. The last time they saw each other they were both being loaded onto seperate helicopters thinking that the other was dead. They just sort of bumped into each other at the mall that day. Scared the hell out of me and probably everyone else around us, but they had a good ole reunion for the next couple hours. I was real happy for my dad, but damn - HE COULD HAVE WARNED ME!!! :-) Rick *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
