I will be in Anchorage for a meeting at the end of July, and plan to stay on for a modest amount of time (like a 4-day weekend) to do some paddling.

I'd appreciate any suggestions of outfitters I might contact, either to rent a boat or (more realistic, I think) who might organize short paddling trips in the Anchorage area. I have never been to Alaska and don't know much of anything about where to go up there, so I'm open to pretty basic information. I don't think I'll be able to take the time to do a more extended trip, though I suppose that might change if it really isn't practical to do anything that short.

All suggestions would be welcomed!

p.s. My apologies to those who already saw this on CPAKayaker - everyone said Paddlewise was the place to go for info on Alaska!

I'm way behind on this list but some outfitters to start with, although
more in the southeast might be:

Scott Roberge, who owns http://www.tongasskayak.com
Betsy at http://www.southeastexposure.com

If they can't help you they could give you referrals...
