Mel: Frank, I am 62 going on 63 and just got overwhelmed by a 69 year old paddler. I was tooling along at 5 MPH and he breezed by. It made me more determined. Get out there and paddle your foldable. I love my Feathercraft K-1 and K-Light. They provide all the excitement I need. When I paddled the Pacific off of Long Beach, many hard-shells packed it in and my K-Light loved it. Consider joining our Foldableseayakers group. You will get lots of reinforcement. In Europe, foldables used to be the only kayaks and they ran C IV rapids with them. Amazing!! Also, peaceful paddling is great and should not be denigrated. Do what you like, not what you think people think you should do.
