not sealed. The back is close to the front bulkhead so stuff can't go all the 
way through. >>

I forgot to say that I drilled two holes and put thin bungie cord across to 
hold in the pump. No way can the paddle float fall/float out if the pump is 
there but I've found it easy to pull out with the pump in there. Roll the 
tube of the float inside to keep it from snagging.
