[Paddlewise] paddling efficiency

Is not the stroke ideal when the total force of the stroke is
directed to forward motion? Assuming I have an ideal stroke how can I
maximize my efficiency? I believe that each of us has a particular
cadence which seems to be most comfortable. I believe this cadence
is related to our ratio of fast twitch to slow muscle fiber. Using
his natural cadence a paddler must then choose a paddle with a drag
factor to match his power output (impedance matching). But highest
efficiency does not necessarily equate to maximum speed. As we all
know, increasing cadence with same blade or using a larger blade
with same cadence will propel us faster. joe
