I was wondering when somebody would make one commercially. I was discussing just this topic last summer on a trip with a fellow Paddlewiser, and the first time I paddled with him this year, he showed up with a home-built greenland paddle that had a balsa core and carbon/glass layed over it. He even put on kevlar tips, for abrasion resistance. It weighed next to nothing compared to my pine/aspen greenland paddle. Another idea for a project........ -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ Wayne Smith wsmith16_at_snet.net Check out my sea kayaking & homebrewing page: http://pages.cthome.net/wsmith16/home.html ----- Original Message ----- From: <dldecker_at_se.mediaone.net> To: <Paddlewise_at_paddlewise.net> Sent: Friday, May 18, 2001 3:11 PM Subject: Re: [Paddlewise] High-tech Greenland paddles? > At 01:44 PM 5/18/01 -0400, Michael Edelman wrote: > >Peter Chopelas wrote: > > > >> Also I do not think I have seen anyone make a high aspect "native" style > >> paddle with light weight composites, with a foam core. > > WRONG > check out http://www.superiorkayaks.com/superiorkayaks006.htm > Composite Paddles > Digitally reproduced from our computer carved wood paddles, these composite > paddles provide you with another medium for this great design.
