In an earlier post Rick Sylva was asking for suggestions on this
subject, I must agree with Mike Daly's reply that clips on a kayak make
me nervous. Mike went on to suggest Velcro loops, which I have been
using on my Hobie Pursuit SOT for the last two years.
I purchased the loops from a computer store. Originally intended to keep
computer wires tidy, I found that when I looped them through the eye
hooks that came on my boat that they work perfectly for securing my
paddle when I wanted to swim or keep my paddle attached to my kayak when
I'm not on it.
I also use them to secure the ends of my nylon tie down straps (fore and
aft) while transporting my kayak on my car. I got tired of the endless
loose knots that I had to tie to keep the ends from flapping around so
I just roll the ends up loosely and wrap then up with the little velcro
loops.
I also found that the nylon tie down straps would hum and rub at highway
speeds, doing who knows what to the paint to the hood and trunk of my
car so I got some foam pipe insulator from my local Home Depot and ran
the bottom three feet of the nylon tie down straps through it . No more
hum and rub!
I hope that these tips are useful to some of you.

Best regards and happy paddling,
