As many of you know, I was one of those who was an inadvertent transmitter of the abovenamed virus. I apologise (again) to all of you for letting my guard down. Incidentally, I do have virus protection software (McAfee) which did NOT detect the virus, even after a very recent download. Another member of this list who has both a MacIntosh and Norton Antivirus alerted me to my problem and directed me to the Symantec page below. This page has instructions for killing the virus even if you do not have the Symantec software. Simply follow all the steps (repeated in text below) and the virus is easy to kill. Again, my apologies to all of you, who have provided so much to one another. Bob Here's the Symantec page: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/w32.badtrans.13312_at_mm.html And here are the text instructions for a PC running Windows 95/98/me: 1. Click Start and then click Run 2. Type the following and then click OK: edit c:\windows\win.ini 3. In the [windows] section, locate the run= line. If it says" run=c:\windows\inetd.exe" then the virus is present, even if your email program won't respond to it. To get rid of it, simply backspace on that line to the "=", so that the line reads "run=". Now save your changes and exit the editor. 4. Then, using Windows Explorer or "My Computer" find the file c:/Windows/inetd.exe and DELETE it. Problem solved.
