G'day All, How on earth did Cow Town get mixed up in the thread about
print v email? Is this Fort Worth the FW of DFW? Is this an illusion to
some obscure Yankee joke? How can a poor Kiwi on the edge of the known
universe make sense of all this?
Back on topic! Please consider the advantages of electronic
communication, and I write as one who spent most of his working life making
a living out of the printed word, ie, as a newspaperman.

These days it costs a fortune to post printed material anywhere. I
subscribed, and indeed contributed to Ralph D's Folding Kayaker newsletter,
but at around US$35 a sub, which translates to AUD$57, it all gets a little
expensive to subscribe to a newsletter from abroad. BTW, I do Not begrudge
Ralph, or others, their due wage!

So, as a PaddleWiser who still has ink in his veins [ I date back to
pre-computerised newspapers!] I say, esteemed editors, please consider the
advantages of electronic. Without doubting the hegemony of America ! , it
is the international reach of PaddleWise, and its electronic format, which
makes it so worthwhile. And perhaps those who consider putting their
skills into the printed word, also consider making an electronic version
available to those at the edge of civilisation. Think of it with
missionary zeal, and you will get the idea!
I make no apology to those xenophobes who would see their particular neck
of the woods as the Mt Zion of seakayaking, and I point the finger here at
Aussies as much as anyone. I think we can all contribute from our
different national perspectives and experiences.
And now its back to my daily paper and it is off to the little house.[ We
have an English saying: today's newspaper wraps tomorrow's fish and chips.]
