Painting the bottom vs. leaving it bright (varnished) is a personal
preference.  I hope you haven't painted yet because you need to sand almost
all of that primer off.  Its purpose is to fill in any little scratches and
not as a "first coat".   If you don't sand the primer and then put on
bottom paint it will chip easily.  I used Interlux bright sides on my CLC
Norhtbay when I first built it and last winter sanded it down and painted
with Z-Spar poly paint and it seems to be much harder.
