Apologies to anyone who has already seen this, or who gets it twice! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conservancy Launches Program To Patrol Potomac Banks This summer, the Conservancy is launching a new program to help protect the Potomac and its riverside lands from environmental depredations and inappropriate development. Our River Monitor Program aims to establish regular volunteer patrols along priority river sections that keep an eye out for pollution, illegal dumping, fish kills, tree cutting or other development activity that might pose a threat to the health of the Potomac River. To read a recent article about this new program from the Washington Post click the link below. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A29186-2001Jun6.html The Conservancy is seeking volunteers, preferably paddlers with their own boats, to "adopt" identified sections of river and commit to regular patrols to keep watch for changes to the landscape. River sections will vary in length and difficulty of paddling. Along some sections of river monitors might elect to patrol their site by foot. At a minimum, volunteers (or groups of volunteers) should be able to commit to one patrol of their river section per month.
