Hi Peter, Surf is also the weakest link in most other competent sea paddlers. When I an doing 4-star BCU assessments, I expect them to be able to land and launch in up to 1-m dumping surf w/o being a liability to the group. It can be taxing but it sure does provide instant feedback to the candidate and the assessor if their skills are not there yet.
