Decided to have a look on the web and found this Cheers Wilky PS We have some thing similar we call a box jelly fish, well not where I am but up towards Queensland. The Lions Mane Jellyfish, most of us will have encountered these at some point with their long trailing stinging tentacles (up to 3m) they can leave a painful impression. The top dome is rather flat and usually has brown markings, the edges form in to large lobes. There are four large arms surrounding the mouth, these are much shorter than the tentacles. The tentacles are arranged in eight bunches each containing over a hundred tentacles, the older tentacles tend to be a dark red in colour, fragments of tentacles retain their stinging power so beware of them caught on ropes etc. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
