I'm starting to look for a new boat. As a starting point to narrow the list of choices down, is there a web-site that allows you to specify features, and it responds with a list of the boats (across all or most manufacturers) that meet the criteria that was input? Features like: construction material; length; height; "Day hatch" (Y/N); Rudder (Y/N); Skeg (Y/N); Bulk Heads (Y/N); major desired characteristic - "S"peed, "ST"ability, "T"racking; etc. Certainly not a substitute to paddling them, but it narrows the initial list down. I recently moved my kayak database to new web application environment (Tomcat) which resulted in a URL change. Try this instead: http://mayfly.mannlib.cornell.edu/kayakdb/ I originally wrote the database as a feasibility test to demonstrate the use of Java, MySQL, and JDBC to others in my department. Originally it only had about a dozen kayaks in it, but then I started adding more to it from home and it took on a life of it's own. It now has statistics for over 800 models and I know that there are a lot of new ones since the last time I touched the database. It doesn't have anything in it about bulkheads, hatches, volumne, or design characteristics though. Trying to obtain all that information for enough different models to make it useful would require more time that I have to put into it. Thanks. That site is giving me a Server Error.... I'll try it again later. Looks like a good starting point. It at least will get me to Fiberglass / Touring, then I can play with the SORT options 3 or 4 ways, and see which boats appear in the cross section of all or most of them.
