Hi Dave & Paddlewisers,

Been off the list for over six months after going back to school.
Sold my C/D solstice gt to buy a laptop, if you can believe it!
We've still got Julie's solstice gts and the big necky tofino double.
My Dad & I took advantage of the nice weather on thursday and
took the Lady Rose from Port Alberni to Bamfield and back. It
made for a long day but enjoyed the sun, snoozes, great hamburgers
and all the stops along the way to drop off freight. Bamfield was quiet
at this time of the year and enjoyed a beer at the bistro. Not much
wildlife spotted along the way but a couple of black bear sightings
along the shoreline on the return trip. Always enjoy this trip and
a great bargain for $45.

This trip got me thinking that of all the trips we've done over the
years, we've never paddled Barkley Sound. I remember your
trip reports on the Deer Group. Have you still got them on file?
If so, I would appreciate you forwarding them along. I think
we'll do a week after the labour day weekend when its a little
quieter.

Bowen Island Sea Kayakiing is holding its second annual Round
Bowen Race. Last year it was held in conjunction with the Round
Bowen Sailing Race. The winner last year finished in just over 3
hours!! Distance is about 20 miles around the island. Expecting
more than 100 paddlers this year as they run it as a separate race
this year with a good party to follow. June 9 is the date and more
info available _at_ their web site www.bowenislandseakayaking.com
