Just another though, which hit me: Sid Taylor wrote: > Is a paddle a help or hindrance in swimming if one is out of the boat? I haven´t tested out this for me, yet. But a paddle might be very usable to give a sign to others, where you are when the boat is drifting elsewhere... My more general opinion would suggest: The Boat is more important than the paddle, so do everything necessary to get the kayak and re-entry. If you are faster with the paddle than without, use it. Otherway, let it swim and use the spare paddle from the kayak. Should one be tethered to the kayak? I don´t think this is a great help. But depends on the everybody´s own decision, if or not. For a single paddler it might be more useful, then for a group paddler. Under surf conditions ... on the open sea you´ve got no choice. Without kayak - "pray", nearby a beach I wouldn´t tether anything, except my paddle. Just my 2,5 cents - in the morning safe paddling Jochen *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
