Peter Another option you may want to consider is dye. I carry a film canister full and from what I have found out its apparently very visible from the air leaving a huge green fluorescent trail. Admittedly it wont be much good at night but its cheap and providing its kept dry lasts a long time. It can be used as well as flares. You can buy it a most plumbers store as they use it for checking leaks in pipes. Wondered if anyone had recommendations on flares that could be carried in a lifejacket or any other comments about flares for kayaks. I'm particularly interested in dual purpose flare/smoke devices, where to get them and how to use them! For example once the flare is used can it be turned over and the smoke sction used? Has the technology changed much in the last 3 years? All the best, PeterO ************************************************************************ *** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
