Woke up yesterday to hear the unbelievably sad news. Very glad to hear that
Ralph is OK. Hope that others on the list are safe as well. Throughout the
day everyone I talked to here could only describe their horror for what had
happened and their deep sympathy for the families of those killed. - please
be sure that we're with you as you cope with this cowardly act.

Probably the best thing most people can do for New York (apart from giving
blood!!) is to stay out of the city and let the emergency response teams
continue to get on with their job without distractions for a couple of days.
Most fellow New York business people, with whom I have spoken in the last few
hours, will send at most skeleton crews in tomorrow and possibly for the rest
of the week. My offices are in the Empire State Building and most of us will
work from our homes outside of Manhattan as of tomorrow -- the first plane,
apparently navigating down Fifth Avenue, flew directly overhead on its way to
the impact -- we'll be happy to stay away for a few days.

Best regards,
Ralph (safely back in Stamford CT after a grim day in the City)

I'd like to echo Wes' comments and also say that while what I saw today
on TV made me very sad, at the same time it restored my faith in humanity
as I watched New Yorkers handle not only the worst terrorist attack
in US history, but probably the world, with incredible bravery and
compassion for their fellow human beings.

My heart goes out to all the families of victims who died in this
horrific act, especially the children who have lost a mom or dad or both.

Jackie

Thank you Peter.

We US citizens have been moved by the offers of sympathy and warm wishes
and offers of help from around the world. But as this tragic scene
continues to unfold, it has been revealed that the losses are not only
our own citizens. CNN reports today that hundreds of Britons were working
in the World Trade center, as well as citizens from Mexico, South Korea,
Japan, Ireland, Australia, and many others.

I realize this has been mostly off-topic for the list, but I believe
most here will understand the exception in this most unprecedented event
and also understand the need to express feelings of concern, sympathy and
grief for our friends everywhere. Thanks to all for their kind words
of sorrow and support and to all those affected in all parts of the
world, please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences.

Jackie
