FWIW, here are incidents surrounding my sending the peaceful trip report
that is part 1 of this set:

Part way through the retelling, I was slightly annoyed to get a misdirected
phone call that came to me instead of to its intended recipient, one of my
staff members. I succeeded in forwarding it without incident and surprised
in minutes to have this person's supervisor come tearing into my office
saying "Do you know where her children are in school? The phone call she
just received was for a bomb threat at her child's school!" That was kind
of upsetting to say the least, but the one who received the call had already
left and we didn't know which of her 2 children was affected.

I had a training session scheduled at the community college not far from
here, but close to the main high school for Galveston. Suspecting potential
traffic snarls at the high school, we took a slightly roundabout route to
Galveston College, parked, and headed up the street in the direction of the
class. We noticed a large number of people walking toward us and what I
thought to be a large number of students changing classes turned out to be
EVERYONE who had been at the college - being evacuated by a bomb scare
there.

Pleased to have my cell phone with me, and spotting the person who was
coordinating the training session across the way, I called back to my home
campus to let them know what was going on, and to see if we could reschedule
the training to Pelican Island. Many phone calls commenced and to make a
long story short, we did finally get back to the classroom at Galveston
College - and on my calling to Pelican Island, now I found classes had been
cancelled there. Not a bomb scare, but as part of the national observance
and day of prayer.

I am so sorry I unloaded the kayak from the roof of my car last evening - I
could sure use some kayaking hydrotherapy today! Hope your weekend is off
to a more upbeat start - and my sincere condolences to those whose weekend
and ever after have been tainted by the tragedies at the start of this week.
