What a great day on the water. Kirk Olsen, from NH (stuck in S. Ca because of this weeks tragedies) and I had the opportunity to meet at Paddle Power in Newport Beach and head out for a few hours. The weather was great, ocean smooth with low coastal clouds that burned off about 12:30pm. I am sure that Kirk would rather be back home with his wife and two children, but he made the best of a bad situation. Jim and Julie at Paddle Power fixed Kirk up with a new CD Caribou S for the day, but I don't think that Kirk will be trading in his Pintail for one anytime soon. He kept trying to get me to try it out, but given the fact I don't need any more temptations for a new boat right now I had to pass! It is obvious that Kirk is an accomplished and experienced paddler and I am sure would have appreciated a greater challenge, but Newport Beach to the North Side of Laguna Beach and back had to do. Next time I'll put on some sun screen - I'm cooked! Kirk, thanks for the opportunity to meet and share a few hours on the water. You provided a new spark of desire in me to work on the basics, "Learn to Roll" and just spend more time on the water. God's speed for a safe trip home on Monday! I would like to thank Fred and the other people who responded to my request for information and company. I had a great time paddling with Fred, it was nice to have someone to chat with. I too was silly and didn't put on sunscreen (we were in the boats for 5 hours). I've got my fourth attempt at leaving scheduled for Monday evening - a dreaded 2 stop red eye. Fred rolling isn't that hard, it's just a little dance, once you learn the steps you'll be surprised how easy it is. kirk -----Original Message----- From: F Thomas - CaKayak <cakayak_at_mindspring.com> Date: Sat, 15 Sep 2001 21:07:49 -0700 To: "paddlewise_at_paddlewise.net" <paddlewise_at_paddlewise.net> Subject: Chance to Meet Fellow Paddlewise Paddler > What a great day on the water.
