Michael, Someone answered your request for information about transporting two kayaks on top of your Civic Hatchback by suggesting that you increase the length of your crossbars. This is just what I have done on my "98 Civic sedan and it works like a champ for my two 14" SOT's, which I transport topside down. I have a yakama set up with a set of 48" bars and 60" bars...and I just switch them out as needed. BTW....the reason that I don't just leave the 60" bars on is because I can remember to duck, but my passengers, not being used to them, often do not. You only have to forget they are up there once and bean your noggin to take the suggestion of "padding" the ends seriously. I use bright yellow tennis balls... I just cut a one inch X into and jam them on. Another upside of this strange looking arrangement is that I can always find my car in a crowded parking lot. I hope that some of this was helpful or at least amusing Happy paddling, Rob Dee Austin, Texas *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
