[Paddlewise] signaling

I kayak on very large reservoirs and on the Savannah river here in Augusta GA,
USA and would like advice on what types of flares, smoke signals, etc I should
be carrying. I tend to paddle alone and typically in the day time.  I am
thinking of storing these items in an Otter brand waterproof box on the deck
of the kayak.  Any advice is helpful.
