Hope y'all don't mind Addendum #1, a couple of additional comments  Guess
there would have been some merit in proof reading my previous post a little
more thoroughly.

1)   At the end of the fifth paragraph where it states " one end under the
seat of the kayak", this is the end that would be the membrane housing which
would snuggly slip under your  kayak seat.  The diameter of the membrane
housing slipping under the seat = 2 1/4 inches.
 You would need a cockpit large enough that will give you enough room to
pump the handle as the unit lay at the bottom of your hull, an ocean cockpit
may create a problem(?).

2)  To shed a little more info on the energy needed for the PUR-35......
For the start up, pump the handle up and down as far as it will in each
direction average of about two seconds for every up/down stroke.  You will
have to pump for a minute or two  to acquire adequate pressure to see the
Pressure Indicating Rod (relief valve) extend out far enough to see an
orange ban.  If the orange ban disappears you not pumping fast enough.  If
water sprays from the indicator pump slower.  After the water starts to dip
from the freshwater hose is when you start dumping the water overboard for
60 strokes.  After the sixtieth stroke start tasting the water to make sure
you do not have an extreme salt taste before starting to fill your water
bag.  The water will always have somewhat of a salty taste.  The taste of
the water from the 35...........it grows on you.   I did not care how the
water tasted as long as it was wet.
     So again my personal opinion is even though PUR- 35 will keep you
alive, be prepared to spend a good bit of time and energy making water, go
electric.
