Surely close to shore is the place its least likely to be calm if theres
swell or wash or wind waves - at least thats my experience and its an
interesting place to go if you're bored with flat water. Can remember a
couple of occasions coming in from the sea on the east coast with a westerly
blowing and finding it rougher in the bay than it was further out. Also I
don't know about the Khats but I've never felt so secure as when paddling a
Klepper foldable despite really enjoying paddling and rolling hardshells! I
would be prepared to go out in conditions in a Klepper which I'm not skilled
enough yet to handle in a hardshell.

Re rolling a Klepper, I've seen it done by an expert at the first attempt,
but he sat and thought about it for a minute or two!! Will try it myself
come the summertime. Never had to roll a Klepper although occasionally I've
needed to roll my hard shell. Self rescue in a Klepper with the right spray
deck is pretty straightforward without having to roll but for any hardshell
my preferred rescue would be a reentry and roll.

All the best, PeterO
