I have a Necky Arluk III. I think it is a great boat. I also got a
sweet deal on mine as it was a used guide boat from a rental fleet.
It does track great, but it handles a bit better to some similar
boats such as the CD GTS. It leans turns really nicely. The finishing
isn't as nice on it as some other boats, but is still well done. I've
never needed the rudder, though a friend who paddles one has had some
problems with windcocking occasionally. The boat can also carry a
whale. The storage space is huge. We pack the boat with a full-sized
bear canister when paddling in bear country. The Necky just swallows
it up. The hatches are also completely waterproof with the neoprene
hatch covers.

I don't know if Necky has redesigned their rudder, but the one
problem I encountered with them is that if you apply to much pressure
the rudder tends to pop out of it's holder. I have a piece of
shockcord with a hook on one end holding it in place. If I ever
needed the rudder, I would just have someone pop the cord.

In otherwords, if offered the boat I again I would get one. Oh yeah,
it is also *fast*. One of the fastest boats I've ever paddled.
