I'm surprised I haven't seen more comments about the 15-mile race from Rockport to Port Aransas, TX that Ken Johnson called attention to. I hadn't felt qualified to be the one to comment on it from my unique perspective, ... last place. I figure I blew it around the four-mile mark when my strategy of staying on the same side of the horizon as the rest of the field broke down. There's just no place to watch waterfowl like Aransas. Since Ken already alluded to our DFWSeaYaker picture albums, everyone's invited to view our amateurish collection of pics of the 15-mile race day and any other outings we've put up, which are still a work in progress. The race album is the first item on our Trip Photos page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DFWseayakers/files/Photos/TripPhotos.htm and only include the pre-race and post-race sites, not the stretch where I was busy sucking air. I thought the organizers, Texas Parks and Wildlife and the parks departments of Rockport and Port Aransas, took a fine initial step toward establishing an annual event. People with no idea what a kayak does wandered through the early morning staging area with curiosity and interest. The objective of calling attention to the area's paddling opportunities and the paddling trail dedicated a year ago was surely furthered. I look forward to this being my annual waterfowl watching opportunity.
