After looking at the drawing mentioned above, I'm wondering if my intention

Rick, check out the "Owner's" manual (about half way through it) in
the"Manuals" picklist from our website www.marinerkayaks.com for a detailed
description of how those decklines work (including diagrams of how to tie
the knots used).
