I'm driving to Charleston, SC within the next few days and thought I'd take one of my boats along...I lived there for a little over a year, BUT, that was almost 30 years ago and long before I ever started to paddle. Does anyone have suggestions for a couple of day trips while I'm there.... Thanks.....Russell *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Put in at Remle Point on the East side of the Cooper River and paddle down past the USS Yorktown (don't get too close) and come in through the shrimp boats at Shem Creek. Start out at Shem Creek and paddle out to Fort Sumter (but you can't get out of your boat on the island :( One of my favs: Go inland to the Huger Creek or Quimby Creek boat ramps and paddle down through the 18th century rice fields. Smile at the alligators. Stop to visit the 1763 chapel and wait for the tide to change to help carry you back up. Put in at Gadsdenville landing (up US 17) and paddle out to Capers Island, a state wildlife sanctuary. Watch the tides; you must return near high tide or you've got a long walk in the mud. Non-paddling: take the Bull's Island Ferry out to Cape Romaine Nat'l Wildlife Sanctuary. Smile at the alligators. Wave at the ducks. You probably won't see the red wolves, but you will see their tracks and scat. Enjoy. -- Steve *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). This past spring a bunch of us put in at Sunrise Beach and paddled out to the fort. We beached our boats there and wandered over to the fort to talk to the rangers. They said you can tour the fort for _free_ if you arrive in your own boat; it only costs if you arrive by tour boat. No rangerly eyebrows were raised by the sight of 8 Folbots on the beach.
