We'd love to hear if Steinhatchee or Yankeetown offer any paddling and what type. There will be 4 of us in 4-single sea-touring kayaks, 2 experienced paddlers and 2 with minimal experience. At the very southern tip of St. Petersburg (where Pinellas Bayway ends) is a nice little county park called Fort DeSoto County Park. Directly across the street from the old fort you can put in and paddle a nice flatwater bayou. You can keep paddling and trace the northern perimeter of the island where you may see dolphin swimming close to shore. Alternately you could put in on the south side of the island and paddle out to Mullet Key. Another 1.5 miles south of Mullet Key is another Key I don't know the name of. I believe one or the other is a wildlife refuge.
