About the workshops,

First, Jack Martin has helped me out in many ways, many times. I am
pleased to have him say anything he likes when ever he wants.

I am writing a small cold water paddling article for the December
issue of Atlantic Coastal Kayaker. I was thinking of listing any cold
water workshops that were planned for January to April, 2002.

So far such workshops have been run by Chesapeake Paddler
Association, Downtown Boathouse, and Atlantic Kayak Tours (Bill
Lozano). The general public is never exposed to such information in
standard USCGAux, Power squadron, US Boat, or State Fish and Game
boating courses. That is why new paddlers coming into the paddling
community are always totally ignorant about then risks of cold water
boating.

I was just lobbying, in an indirect sort of way, for clubs or other
groups in other parts of the country to start offering cold water
boating clinics. CPA has had up to about 90 attendees at one of these
courses, run in January, when the water was 38 degrees F. I believe
everyone found the one-day course to be worthwhile.

Cheers,
Chuck Sutherland
