On the fishing topic, a Carolina is plenty stable enough for fishing. I fish from a Necky Kyook (25" beam) and an Arctic Hawk (22" beam, but I use a stabilizer in anything sloppy). As to rods, I envy the poster who can use his 6' baitcaster. I use the same reel, but on a 7.5' rod, I cannot cast sitting down with a shorter rod, the bucktail lands 15' from the yak. Your husband really needs to try casting sitting down before he decides what size rod he needs. It is a lot different from standing up. As to lures, a neglected topic, use something with single hooks! If necessary, replace the trebles with singles if that will not destroy the action. It is very easy when handling a thrashing fish in a kayak to end up wearing the lure and the fish, which is unpleasant in a power boat and positively dangerous in a kayak. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
