OK, fellow Paddleweisenheimers, it's getting close to the time when y'all up thar in freezin' climes start thinking about warm water paddling. The Florida Gulf Coast Sea Kayak Symposium (sponsored by Sweetwater Kayaks)will be held from February 22 to 24, 2002. They are located south of St. Petersburg on the west coast of Florida. Tampa would be the largest and possibly closest airport. I've forwarded their note to me so that their links will be visible for you. [I had an oops and closed the wrong window, so I hope it's still attached.] Featured guests include: Nigel Foster, Any Stamp, Nigel Robinson, Shawna Franklin, Leon Somme, Tom Pogson, Tom Berg and some Pwiser names I know: Greg Stamer, Bill Tynan, and Larry Koenig. (The following weekend they're offering an Everglades/10,000 Islands paddle from February 28 - March 2). My suggestion is that y'all make your own symposium reservations and I'll coordinate the campsites. Camping is at Fort de Soto (do a check via www.google.com). Sweetwater Kayaks have set aside some "great waterfront sites." The site also gives hotel/resort accommodations info. Maximum is 6 people and two vehicles per site. I will try and rope in Marinell Davis and Pat Moss. The three of us can sleep in our vans, plus I can bring my "Fort Jefferson" tent (9x9 plus a screened-in porch) and my 8x8 dome to take care of some of the visitors. I also have several smaller tents and assorted camping gear/air mattresses. Any takers? If you let me know whether you are a "definite," "definite maybe," or a "maybe" I'll keep track. Seems to me that this would be a good time to resurrect the Paddlewise Logo caps. In fact, I just had a better idea. How about if we have the cloth/embroidered logo patches made and then we can stitch them to our own hats, jackets, bags? Should me much easier and cheaper than finished articles. Jackie? I believe it was Bill Tynan who coordinated the T-shirts. Bill??? Are there any shirts left? Would you take on the patch logo drive, if list mom gives her blessing?
