John Ferreira asks - <<How many of you practice "all in" resuces?>> The people I've been paddling with are almost obsessive about practicing resuces, including the "all in". And the "all in" can be a very quick rescue if it's practiced regularly. IMO the problem with rescues is much more complicated than whether one can do this sort, or that sort. It's an obvious (I hope it's obvious) truism that the more types of rescues you've practiced, and the more serious the conditions you've practiced in, the better prepared you'll be when it hits the fan some day - as it surely will. How close are we to that rocky cliff? What to do about the inexperienced paddlers while we free up a competent person to do the rescue? What to do about a "tide versus wind" rescue situation? And on and on and on..... Sid is right. John is right. Anybody who practices rescues regularly is right. Anybody who thinks they'll never need rescue skills is wrong, IMO - unless they stop paddling completely.
