I've used Chota mukluks, the same pair, for three years now. I have the soft ones without the laces, which people have told me fit more easily into boats. I've made three trips to Greenland with these boots, always spending some time walking around in pretty cold water and occasionally stepping in too far and having water wash over the top. The seal at the top of the boot lets in very little water, none if I jump back into shallow water within a couple of seconds. I have hiked all over on these trips without changing shoes and without insoles. I do, however, wear two pairs of thick poly fleece socks, so the rocks and pebbles don't bother me. Some people think that they need the support of the lace-up boots for hiking. I have pathetically weak ankles but have had no injuries walking with the boots. I just walk very carefully, especially when climbing steep mountains. And Greenland has lots of them. I like them so much I sent a picture of them overlooking a fjord in Aasiaat with icebergs and whales in the background to the Chota company. The soles have held up well. Two Greenland trips were two weeks long and one was three weeks. I use them on all my monthly Mississippi River excursions in the fall, winter and spring also. I really love them, needless to say. And I get no commission for this plug.
