Bill McKenzie showed me his patch kit--I think it was the same stuff.
It looks/sounds nasty. I'd hate to have to try to patch the boat after
it came in with that stuff all over the hull. Of course, your life is
more important than the difficulty of applying a patch over the goo
that saved your life.

My "day job" is in the construction industry, and there's some new
stuff out called MiraDry, which is a 0.05" thick rubber sheet backed
with some sort of bituminous (tar) mixed with unvulcanized rubber. It
will even stick to wet concrete, and is made for sealing foundations
below grade. It comes in 3' rolls, so could easily be kept large (as
large as the ziploc you'd care to carry it in). The only thing it
doesn't stick to is a dusty surface. I'm going to try it out on wet
plastic to see how it works. It's relatively cheap, and not quite as
messy. I can send you a chunk if you want to try it out.
