May I suggest polyester lines instead of nylon. Available in good quality at any marine supply shop. The reason is the old problem of nylon's dimensional instability when going through wet/dry cycles (i.e stretches when wet, shrinks as it dries). Having gone through this a few times, I've replaced all nylon tie-downs with polyester. 1/4" braid is fine, as Matt suggests.
