One of the very best sea kayaking clubs is based in Shetland (only just the 
U.K.!).  I don't live there any more, but I'm still a member - I'll look up 
the contacts and pass them on to you shortly. They are very welcoming , 
helpful and have kayaks to loan, and several of the members are qualified 
instructors. Shetland is definitely a great place to paddle. They will be 
holding a symposium in 2002, I'll post details on paddlewise asap.

Lots of Scottish paddlers just get together - we are not great ones for 
formal clubs.  I now live in the North West Highlands, and the nearest 
thing to a club in my area is a group of paddlers based on the isle of Skye.

I can vouch also for the North Uist outfit mentioned by Marinell - the 
Western Isles are superb for sea kayaking, although conditions can be 
challenging. There is another similar small outdoor centre in Uig on SKye. 
Both are commercial operations.

For more formal clubs, check out the British Canoe 
Union  http://www.bcu.org.uk/     and the Scottish Canoe 
Association  http://www.scot-canoe.org/index2.htm - but be aware that many 
informal clubs won't be registered with either organisation.
