I have been blessed with dozens of private email responses to my request regarding that Tom Paxton song Pete Seeger sang for a small Shorewalkers group after Thanksgiving near Ground Zero. I am not sure which listserves got info on where to find the song; so I am posting info to all three that I sent the request to. The Tom Paxton song is called "The Bravest" and is available on the web as indicated below: One is the version of "The Bravest" as sung by Garrison Keillor on his radio show. The site below has both the words and a download of the song: http://prairiehome.org/performances/20011013/bravest.html I later found a link to the song as sung by Tom Paxton himself. He said of the song. "As I watched the events of September 11 like everyone else, writing a song about it didn't occur to me for hours. When it did, my instinctive reaction was, 'No way. This is over my head. This is too overwhelming for me. No way.' And then, as I kept thinking about those firemen trapped inside the towers, a phrase kept running through my head. Finally, I surrendered and thought I'd better try to write something and the phrase in my head became the chorus of The Bravest. Now, I'll never be able to look at another fireman or -woman without realizing that I'm looking at someone who would lay down his or her life for me without ever knowing my name." Here is a downloadable version of his singing it: http://www.efolkmusic.com/sounds/paxton_bravest.mp3 There is a mention somewhere that Pete Seeger has also sung it for distribution somewhere but I have no further info on this. Again, I like to thank all who were of enormous help. I know my story of how I heard it from Pete Seeger touched many of you as it did we who huddled around him in the rain a hundred feet from Ground Zero as he touchingly sang it privately for us. feliz navidad y un prospero ano nuevo, ralph diaz -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ralph Diaz . . .
