Please get the nomenclature correct.

A sponson is an appendage added to the outside of the hull.

Enclosed spaces  inside the hull  for the purposes of providing buoyancy are
called buoyancy tanks or air tanks.  The careless use of the language of
naval architecture is enough to make me think Tim Ingram has returned from
the land of the living dead.
