I would have told the whole story if I knew it. All I know is that I had a clean run at Crystal [as I, thankfully, have always had], surfed a few waves, peeled out into the edge of the big hole, played around in the eddies on the left side of the rapid, and when I unpacked to camp, the pink bird had its left side sitting where its middle used to be. It makes it possible to tell the two apart, and the injured one is now 20 years old, so I guess no animals were harmed in the production of this non-epic.
