Jim, I have paddled Glacier Bay twice and find the West Arm more scenic and spectacular. My suggestion is to get dropped off at the Reed Glacier and paddle up into John's Hopkin's Inlet. Incredible place. I would not suggest paddling back to Park headquarter from there because you would have a big open water crossing to get back over to the East side. Bears are more and more a problem (primarily due to poor camping habits of campers , including sea kayakers) and more campsite are being placed off limits by the Park Service. Your kids are going to love the ice bergs sculptures especially the "bitty bergs" (small wind and wave carved chunks of floating ice). With a little imagination you and your kids can see dragons, weird sea monsters, fairies and other creatures of the imagination in the floating ice. Plenty of whales and seals there also. Have a safe fun time Bob *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
