Hi, I very much enjoyed all the accolades over the last few days for Jackie and her role in making PaddleWise possible. Prior to the inauguration of PaddleWise, Jackie and I had long conversations on the phone and via email on whether she should make the move to launch it or not. Several of us were privileged in being consulted on this move. We all agreed and encouraged her. And what a move it has turned out to be! I sometimes feel I know it all but PaddleWise has opened up my eyes to all sorts of things I never realized that were out there in the paddling realm. It was Jackie's drive to make it all happen that made this possible. I can't begin to count the times and ways that PaddleWise has helped me in gear, technique and insights... and saved me money and made me safer. And meeting such intriguing people like Doug who was only a seemingly crazed paddler writing for Sea Kayaker until the interchanges in PaddleWise made clear the method to his seeming madness. And characters like Matt Broze and John Winters (they are characters...and they do know it ... of course, I am not one!) This is a wonderful institution and all of this can be laid at Jackie's feet. She has shaped this and kept us all honest. Believe me...none of us have escaped Jackie's wise control and questioning behind the scenes. Whether exalted types like John, Matt, me or any of the other "know-it-alls" we have all been corralled in by Jackie's wise intervention when we have strayed. Jackie's sense of balance, fairness and appropriateness has kept this thing together. There is no better interchange of ideas and practical applications than PaddleWise. It is better in its own way than all of the mags and books out there on paddling. Having written in both realms, I think I am in a position to make that statement. And it all goes back to Jackie. Good bless her and her mutts and her husband Bob...in random order :-) ralphdiaz -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Ralph Diaz . . .
