I've had the pleasure of paddling with Doug here in beautiful Victoria. We're not close friends. He may not even remember me. But you should know this. In the past in the Victoria kayak community when those in the know brought up the name Doug Lloyd they'd take on this far away look. It's the look of an Irish shaman just before he tells you about the wee folk out in the woods. Then they'd spin off an incredible tail about some Doug adventure. Initiates would shake their heads and either wonder, this Doug guy is nuts, or these people must think we're still green? It's comforting to think that in the future these story tellers will be up to their old games but for an all together different reason. "Did you hear the story about how Doug Lloyd took on the worst storm of his life ...."
