[Paddlewise] Safety - Sponsons vs Paddle Floats

Being new to sea kayaking I have a lot of questions. I have yet to do a self
or assisted rescue (will do as soon as the weather warms up).  There is a lot
that I know that I don't know so I govern myself accordingly.





One of my questions is about sponsons vs paddle floats.  My first thought is
that the sponsons appear be safer and would provide a much easier rescue.  See

But the paddle floats seem to be in much greater usage so I'm wondering about
the advantages and disadvantages of each.  Any advice offered will be
appreciated.
