[Paddlewise] Safety Gear

In light of all the safety gear discussions of late, I
had to share a thought from a postcard I received
yesterday from the Dominican Republic:

"My little airplane made it here with no problems but
I still wear the parachute and life jacket..."

My good friend flying his Sai Marchetti (upside down,
no doubt) over open water. Lest we think safety
judgement readily transfers, same individual in the
"newbie kayaker" role purchased a new QCC600, took to
the bay alone, PFD open, no other gear evident, (not
even a spray skirt) and later sent email inquiring as
to why anyone he encountered on the trip shook their
heads.

Standing on the soapbox, throwing my hands in the air...

Great stuff seeking new owners in Yahoo! Auctions!
