Matt Broze:

Maybe slugs are embarrassed by their square feet and so always keep them out
of sight. I've seen a lot of slugs (living in the NW) and have never seen
their feet, have you?

Me:

I've never seen a slugs feet but, in the mountains of Switzerland, where
slugs go to party, my pink flamingo's feet got covered with slugs every
night.

And so did my kayak, which really made it a pain because I would pick off
every one of those critters before paddling. [I have a soft spot in my
heart, as well as my head, for soft animals.]

Camping in the Great Smokies, I woke up in the morning to find my canoe
completely covered with ants.

As we were settling down to sleep in our tent the night before, I retold to
my sister my father's hunting stories from Cedar Key , Florida, in the
1920's. He would fill a jug with honey and whiskey and hang it from a low
tree. A bear would come along, drink the mixture, and get drunk and
then....get shot. My sister got scared and hid our booze under the canoe so
no bear would bother our tent. The lid to the bottle wasn't on tight. Lots
of ants got drunk on our canoe and we had to kill them the next morning.

Note: On last year's kayak trip down the Suwannee, we saw bear and bobcat
tracks along the river. No animals.
