What is with all of the people bashing lately? Everybody is entitled to an
opinion. Just because some people are more passionate about their opinions
than others does not make them either right or wrong.

There is a great variety of boats on the market, because people have
different opinions as to what a kayak should be. I usually paddle with a
group of 5 friends. One paddles a Necky Tesla NM, one a Perception Eclipse,
one an Eddyline Falcon 18, one a Current Designs Extreme, and I in my
Current Designs Gulfstream. None of us are paddling the best boat---what we
are doing is paddling a good boat for us on that particular day.

Matt has opinions on what is the best boat, Derek has differing opinions,
and John has other differing opinions. All of these gentlemen are right and
that's why there is a market for their boats. Opinions are personal thoughts
and are not "right or wrong":

Just my 2 cents.

Me:

Which is why those of us with both chronic and acute paddle dependencies
have a "golf bag" of boats [I'm up to eight kayaks and one canoe now]. So a
favorite is like a favorite child - not proper to identify one, and it
changes day to day or trip to trip.

For whatever reason, nothing seems so silly as another person's passions.

Agreed. My only primary objection here is that Matt and John participate
in Paddlewise whereas Derek does not. If Matt or John express their
opinion, and are bashed for it, at least they have the opportunity to respond.

What is with the people-bashing?

Steve, I agree with you 100%.

If we are only are allowed to be critical about things
that people on this list can personally respond to...?
(and what to think about the poor boats we talk about?)

Besides, it is not the person who is criticized here, but the information
he has given in his book. Certainly when you write a book,
I think people have the right, and knowledgeable people even have
some obligation(?), to express their opinion about it.
Because the information in a book like that of Derek Hutchinson
will be repeated many many times in other peoples books and
articles in magazines and so. Which has the effect of
a whole lot of nonsense repeatedly turning up in those writings,
just because an 'authority' wrote it...

I know very well that giving 'simple' information about complicated
matters is extremely difficult. But that doesn't mean you do not have
to work hard to get it as right as possible?!
