There have been several recent comments on the exceptional comfort of fuzzy rubber clothing. But for those who announced that they have ditched their neoprene wetsuits in favor of fuzzy rubber, and anyone thinking about doing so, I can only suggest the standard advice: test your gear by swimming in cold water. My own experience with fuzzy rubber garments that lack watertight gaskets (a paddling jacket and a head-hugging hood) has been that, upon immersion, water will penetrate and flush under the garment (unlike neoprene, which holds an insulating layer of water in place against the skin), greatly reducing its insulating value. My fuzzy rubber hood, for example, does little to prevent the "ice cream headache" effect that I never experience in neoprene.
