Greetings to all! I was bitten several years ago by the Sea Kayaking bug. I finally got an opportunity to do some "real" paddling last year when my Ladywife got me a trip for my birthday. I spent two days paddling and watching the wildlife on the Columbia River here in Washington/Oregon. I find myself digging into my kayaking books and trip guides dying to get back on the water again for some more adventures. Being a big guy (6'7", 270), its not easy to come by rental equipment but I am finally getting all my stuff together and am going to look at a kayak this weekend having narrowed it down to a Necky Pinta or a Tesla. My reason for writing is to see if there are any kindred spirits who might be interested in a regular/semi-regular outing to do some touring. I am strictly a novice with a great deal of enthusiasm, so we are not talking about re-tracing Lewis and Clark's expedition, (Yet!) just some day trips and maybe some weekend overnighters. Once I get my equipment together, I will probably be spending a good deal time on the calm waters of Vancouver Lake in Vancouver Washington (Anyone else in the area have any suggestions for spots to learn?) , practicing my technique and getting very wet! So, if your interested in "Kayaking with a Viking" ( ..aint that scary?) drop me a note.
