This may already have been said during the "personal tether" thread - it's a good idea to think long and hard about what situations such a tether might be helpful. If it's too long, a person tether can cause entanglement. If it's too short, it can cause entrapment. It seems to me that in most situations, a personal tether isn't a good idea - but if it is used, it should be thoroughly tested at times when there's a paddling partner who has excellent rescue skills, including the ability to do the "trapped paddler" or "hand of God" rescue.
